We're a small team that actually keeps chickens and runs this thing ourselves. Here are the answers to the questions we get most often, if yours isn't here, just email us at support@chickenmathsociety.com. Real humans, real responses, no scripts.
About Our Shirts
What kind of shirts do you print on?
We print on premium Comfort Colors blanks — 100% ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed, 6.1 oz/yd² heavyweight. These are the same blanks that heritage brands and boutique tee shops use because they're soft from day one, soften further with every wash, and outlast almost everything else. Made for the long haul, not for a single season.
How do your shirts fit?
Unisex, relaxed fit, runs true to size. If you're between sizes or want that extra-relaxed lived-in feel, size up. Most of our members do. Every product page has a full size chart with measurements, please check it before ordering.
Where are your shirts made?
The blanks are sourced from Honduras (Comfort Colors). All shirts are printed, packaged, and shipped from the USA.
Will the colors fade over time?
Garment-dyed cotton softens and gently fades over time , that's part of the heritage charm. It's why your favorite vintage tees look the way they do. To slow it down: cold water wash, turn inside out, and skip the bleach. Full care instructions are on every product page.
Shipping
How long until my order ships?
Every shirt is printed to order, so production typically takes 3-5 business days. Once it's printed and packed, delivery typically takes 3-6 business days. Total: usually 6-11 business days from the day you order. We'll send a tracking email the moment your package ships.
How much is shipping?
Standard US shipping is $6.45. Free shipping on orders over $85, we reward people who commit.
Do you ship internationally?
Right now we ship to the United States only. We're working on expanding to Canada and beyond, sign up for our email list to be the first to know when we add your country.
Will I get a tracking number?
Yes. Once your order ships, you'll get a tracking email with a number you can follow. Track it obsessively or forget about it completely, both are valid approaches.
I just placed my order, when will it ship?
Production usually starts within 24-48 hours of ordering. We'll send a tracking email as soon as the package leaves the print shop. Most orders ship within 6 business days. If you haven't received tracking after 7 business days, email us, something may have gotten stuck and we'll find it.
Can I expedite my order?
Not currently. Because every shirt is printed to order, production time is the same regardless of shipping speed. We're working on adding express options for future launches.
Order Issues
I made a mistake on my order, how do I fix it?
Email us at ChickenMathSociety@gmail.com within 24 hours of ordering with your order number and what needs to change (wrong size, wrong address, wrong color). If production hasn't started yet, we can update it. Once production begins (usually within 24-48 hours), the shirt is already being made and we can't make changes.
I only received part of my order, where's the rest?
When you order multiple items, they may ship in separate packages depending on production. Check your email for multiple tracking numbers, the rest is likely on its way. If it's been more than 10 business days since the first item arrived and the rest still hasn't shipped, email us with your order number and we'll track it down.
My package says delivered but I don't have it.
This happens. Here's what to do:
- Wait 3 business days, carriers sometimes marks things delivered a day or two early
- Check with neighbors, household members, and any covered porch/garage spots
- Look at your tracking, does the delivery photo match your address?
- If still missing after 3 days, email us and we'll work with you to make it right
My shirt arrived damaged or with a printing error.
That's on us. Email us at support@chickenmathsociety.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a photo of the issue. We'll reprint and reship a replacement, or refund you in full, your call. You don't need to ship the damaged shirt back.
I ordered the wrong size, can I exchange it?
Because every shirt is made-to-order, we can't offer free size exchanges. The shirt was printed specifically for your order and can't be resold or restocked. You're welcome to place a new order in the correct size at regular price. We strongly recommend checking the size chart on each product page before ordering, when in doubt, size up.
Can I cancel my order?
Yes, if you email us within 24 hours of placing it at support@chickenmathsociety.com. After 24-48 hours, production has usually started and we can't cancel — the shirt is already being made for you.
Returns & Refunds
What's your return policy?
The short version: we accept returns for defective, damaged, misprinted, or wrong items within 30 days of delivery. We don't accept returns for change of mind, wrong size, or "didn't fit the way I expected", because every shirt is custom-printed for your order. Full details on our Refund Policy page.
Why can't I return a shirt I just don't like?
Every shirt is printed specifically for you when you order. Once it's made, it can't be resold or restocked, it's literally a one-of-a-kind item with your order on it. That's the honest tradeoff of made-to-order goods: we keep prices reasonable and never run out of stock, but we can't accept change-of-mind returns. Please check the design, size chart, and color carefully before ordering.
How long do refunds take?
Once we approve a refund, it typically shows up in your account within 3-7 business days, depending on your bank. Refunds go back to the original payment method.
Payment
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, and PayPal. All payments are processed through Shopify's secure checkout, your information is encrypted and never stored on our end.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. Checkout is handled by Shopify Payments, which is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified, the highest level of payment security. We never see or store your credit card details.
Do you offer payment plans?
Shop Pay Installments lets you split orders over $50 into 4 interest-free payments at checkout. Select Shop Pay at checkout to see if you qualify.
Why was my card declined?
Most often this is your bank flagging the purchase as unusual (especially for first-time online purchases). Try again, contact your bank to authorize the transaction, or use a different payment method. If it keeps happening, email us and we'll help you sort it out.
Will I be charged sales tax?
Sales tax is calculated at checkout based on your shipping address and applicable state/local laws. The total shown at checkout is what you'll pay.
Designs & Custom Orders
Do you take custom design requests?
Not at this time. We design all our shirts in-house to keep the brand voice consistent. If you have an idea you'd love to see, email us, we read every suggestion and some have become real products.
Will you ever bring back a sold-out or retired design?
Sometimes. We rotate designs and seasonal drops, but if a retired design has enough demand, we'll bring it back. Join our email list to be the first to know about restocks and new drops.
Can I get my design wholesale or for a group?
If you're a coop tour, chicken keeping Facebook group, homestead retreat, or similar community looking to order in bulk, email us at support@chickenmathsociety.com and we'll talk.
The Brand
Do you actually keep chickens?
Yes. Too many. We're aware.
What's "chicken math"?
The inexplicable phenomenon by which a backyard chicken keeper begins with three hens and somehow ends up with seventeen, two ducks, and a coop addition. We named the brand after it.
Are you a real business or a print-on-demand operation?
Both, honestly. We're a real brand, we design every shirt, write every word on this site, and answer every email ourselves. We partner with a US-based print fulfillment company to print and ship the shirts so we can keep prices reasonable and never run out of stock. The brand is ours; the printing is theirs. That's it.
Where can I follow you?
Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and Facebook — all @chickenmathsociety. We post real chicken keeping content, behind-the-scenes from the coop, new design previews, and occasionally announce drops to our email list first.
